Want long-lasting happiness this New Year?
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or New Years= regardless of the specific holiday, we want it to be happy.
A secret to long-lasting satisfaction is the power of gratitude. Gratitude immediately takes us into the state of awe and wonder called love. Whether it’s romantic, self, friend, or life itself, we dip deeper than our questioning of logical details e.g. why, how, what if’…
Things that bring us pleasure are wonderful and to be enjoyed. For example, I love cherry chocolates at Christmas; the sweetness goes direct to my body’s pleasure center and I feel a sign of satisfaction… till Ha, I want more! In comparison, the gratitude I feel when I remember my dad’s love that inspired him to gift me cherry chocolates every Christmas (till he passed) is deep and sustaining. The remembrance inspires a deep feeling of love and gratitude.
Just for a moment, pause and ask your imagination to bring the image of someone or-something that brings you great joy… (PAUSE-yes really do it) and notice how your-body immediately softens as you see who shows up. When you focus-your attention on people and experiences for which you are grateful your feel-good hormones are activated.
Science repeatedly shows that a grateful biochemistry produces greater-physical energy, better health and more-resilience. For example, the taste of a tablespoon of salt in a lake is insignificant, while that same amount of salt in a cup of water is uncomfortable. The impact of life’s daily irritations is lessened when they land in an inner reservoir of spaciousness.
As we approach a new year, I’m grateful to you for coming together for a monthly dip into meditation. I cherish the presence you bring to the world. Thank you for being yourself because no one else can. Sharing your unique expression is a most important Purpose.
I wish you a Happy New Year, my friend.
